The Highland Elementary PTA proudly oversees our Art Docent Program, which brings fun, hands-on art experiences into our classrooms throughout the school year. The program is run entirely by parent and community volunteers, with the PTA coordinating volunteers, developing curriculum, funding supplies, and maintaining materials.

Art Docents visit classrooms approximately once a month to lead a short art lesson and a fun, hands-on project. And don't worry—you do not need to be an artist or a teacher to become an Art Docent!

For more information about our art docent program or if you are interested in volunteering to be an art docent, please email Jen Schmidt at highlandpta.artdocent@gmail.com

The Highland Running Club gives students an opportunity to get moving, build healthy habits, and start the school day with energy! Students in grades 1–5 can run or walk the track each school day from 9:00–9:10 a.m. before school starts.

Once a month, the PTA hosts an extended Running Club morning open to all students in grades K–5. On select Fridays, students can join us from 8:30–9:00 a.m. for extra time on the track, running and walking with friends and classmates.

Whether students are experienced runners or simply enjoy getting outside and moving, everyone is welcome! The program is designed to encourage physical activity, healthy habits, and a fun sense of community.

WatchDOGS (Dads of Great Students) is a volunteer program that brings positive male role models into our school to support students and help create a safe, welcoming school environment.

WatchDOGS volunteers spend time on campus during lunch and recess, interacting with students and supporting staff. Volunteers also conduct walks around campus to help promote a safe and secure environment for everyone.

The typical volunteer commitment is 11:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m., with the option to stay through the afternoon and help until 3:10 p.m.

Our goal is to have at least one or two WatchDOGS on campus each school day. Whether you can volunteer regularly or just a few times throughout the year, your involvement makes a difference!

Please note: All Highland volunteers must complete the required Safe Visitors background check process before volunteering on campus.

The Highland PTA Yearbook Program captures and celebrates the memories, friendships, and special moments that make each school year unique. Our PTA volunteers work throughout the year to create and distribute the annual Highland yearbook for students and families to enjoy.

Yearbook volunteers take photos throughout the school year, including school events, assemblies, special days, classroom activities, recess, lunch, and everyday moments around campus. Volunteers also visit classrooms and attend school activities to make sure we capture as many students and memories as possible.

From taking photos and organizing memories to designing pages and creating the finished book, the yearbook is a true team effort made possible by our dedicated PTA volunteers.

For more information about our yearbook program or if you are interested in volunteering to be a part of the yearbook, please email Lacei Higgins at highlandpta.yearbook1@gmail.com

The Highland PTA Staff Appreciation Program is dedicated to celebrating and supporting the incredible teachers, staff, and support team who make Highland such a special place for our students.

Throughout the school year, PTA volunteers raise funds and organize ways to show our staff how much they are valued and appreciated.

During Staff Appreciation Week, we go all out with special treats and experiences such as staff meals, coffee trucks, massages, snacks, gifts, and more!

But appreciation doesn’t stop at one week. Throughout the year, we look for ways to keep the staff room stocked, provide special treats and surprises, and brighten our staff’s day.

This program is our way of saying thank you to the people who pour so much time, energy, and heart into our students every day.

These programs, along with so many other PTA initiatives, bring valuable opportunities and support to our entire Highland community. We can’t do it without our volunteers! Whether you have an hour to give or want to take on a bigger role, there’s always a way to get involved.

Food Handler's Permit - This year the Highland PTA is going to sponsor your food handler's card as a membership benefit! After you take the quick course and pass the incredibly easy test, please email highlandpta.vicepresident@gmail.com to get your group code and we will pay for your card.

While it isn't required for you to have a food handler's card in order to volunteer at an event where we serve food, we highly encourage it, and you can use the card ANYWHERE, not just at PTA events! Cards are good for two years after the date you pass the test.
